The Partnership for Public Service has documented the experiences of the outgoing and incoming presidential administrations, including officials from the White House, federal agencies and the two major presidential campaigns, to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of their transition efforts in 2008 and 2009. The culmination of that work, Ready to Govern, offers a set of recommendations for future transfers of power.

The launch of this report marks the completion of the first year of the Obama administration and offers an opportunity to reflect upon the successes and challenges faced by our government leaders. Following an overview of the report, our expert panel will share their experiences and discuss these issues further. Speakers include:

  • Max Stier, President and CEO, Partnership for Public Service
  • Chris Lu, Cabinet Secretary and Executive Director, Obama Transition Team
  • Russ Gerson, Transition Planning Committee Personnel Director, McCain Campaign
  • Martha Kumar, Director, White House Transition Project
